Comencé en Etsy casi de casualidad, allá por el 2006, con www.indiaylaluna.etsy.com cuando aún trabajaba en un hotel en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Empecé llevando a mi trabajo muñecos para coser a mano en esas tardes aburridas en que el trabajo mermaba, los mismos muñecos que le regalaba a mi pequeña India que había cumplido un añito. Un día, en agosto del 2006, me despidieron de mi puesto y me encontré con mucho tiempo libre y muchas ganas de, por fin, hacer algo que realmente amara……

I started on Etsy almost by accident, back in 2006, with www.indiaylaluna.etsy.com while still working at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I started taking to my work dolls to sew by hand in those boring evenings in which work waned, the same dolls that I used to give to my one year old daughter: India. One day in August 2006, I was fired from my job and I found plenty of free time and can not wait to, finally, do something I really love...

Fue así que decidí vender bolsos, carteras y ropita hecha a mano en mi primer tienda….Pero las ventas tardaban en llegar y yo necesitaba dinero para vivir ya que recién me había separado del papá de mi pequeña, y, aunque sabía que Etsy me ofrecía todo lo que yo estaba buscando: trabajar desde mi casa siendo mi propio jefe y así poder estar más tiempo con mi hija, tuve que aceptar un puesto como maestra de niños en un jardín de infantes cerca de casa por 3 horas cada tarde…. No era mucho tiempo fuera, pero mis deseos estaban puestos en hacer de Etsy mi única fuente de trabajo…

Durante el 2007 y 2008 fui maestra de niños de 4 años y, paralelamente, empecé a poner en India y la Luna toda mi energía para hacerla exitosa. No recuerdo cuando, y viendo que las piezas en plata se vendían muy bien, decidí desempolvar mis viejas y olvidadas herramientas de orfebrería (había hecho un pequeño taller allá por el 2003) y probar con ese rubro…. Y fue entonces que descubrí mi verdadera vocación: LA ORFEBRERÍA!!!

But sales were slow in coming and I needed the money to live because I had recently separated from my baby's dad, and though Etsy offered me everything I was looking for: work from home and being my own boss and spend more time with my daughter, I had to accept a position as teacher in a kindergarten near home for 3 hours each afternoon... Not much time away, but my desires were on making Etsy my exclusive job.

During 2007 and 2008 I was four years old kindergarten teacher and, simultaneously, I began to put in India y la Luna all my energy to make it successful. I do not remember when, and seeing the silver pieces were sold very well, I decided to dust off my old and forgotten jewelry tools (I had done a small workshop back in 2003) and test with this category.... And then I discovered my true vocation, metal smith!

Y, como sucede siempre cuando uno se dedica a lo que ama realmente, las ventas comenzaron a subir y yo a tener cada vez más trabajo!!! A principios del 2009, en marzo, cuando en Argentina comienza el año escolar, decidí renunciar a mi trabajo como maestra para dedicarme, exclusivamente, a mi tienda en Etsy, y, abrir otra más www.InnerEvolution.etsy.com para ofrecer prendas de vestir que adoro diseñar, cortar y coser…. Y, con toda la alegría y el orgullo del mundo, puedo decir que también está resultando!!!!

And, as always happens when one is dedicated to what one really loves, sales began to climb and I had more and more work! In early 2009, in March, when in Argentina the school year begins, I decided to quit my day job and devote myself exclusively to my Etsy store, and open a second shop www.InnerEvolution.etsy.com where I offer clothing that I love to design, cut and sew... And with all the joy and pride of the world, I can say my second shop is doing very well too!!

Hola a todas, hace tiempo que me queria unir a ustedes y al fin estoy aqui.
Mi nombre es Moira,tengo 35 años y vivo en Santiago de Chile con mi hijo de 13 años y mi pareja y mi gatita pelusa.
Hago principalmente monstruitos, gatos y cojines, aunque tambien quiero empezar a hacer ilustraciones.
Actuamlente vivo en un departamento, ahi es donde trabajo, en los horarios mas locos que se puedan imaginar. A veces despierto temprano inspirada, otras me da el ataque de creatividad por la noche, pero debo reconocer que soy una noctambula, casi siempre en las noches es donde desarrollo mi proceso creativo, dibujo mis monstruos, se me ocurren ideas y me gusta navegar en etsy, flickr y blogs favoritos.tambien coseria feliz a las 2 o 3 de la mañana, pero ahi si que volveria locos a mis vecinos, asi que me aguanto las ganas hasta el dia siguiente.

Aunque conoci flickr hace unos 3 años, no supe de Etsy hasta el año pasado, en que empece a averiguar y me inscribi. Al principio me complicaba muchicimo el idioma, pero luego de a poco fui perdiendo miedo y metiendome de lleno en este mundo, aunque aun no hago treasurys :),
Otra de las cosas que me encantan de mi trabajo es que puedo trabajar en casa y eso me gusta muchisimo, la libertad de horarios, soy super ciclica y a veces trabajo mucho y otras simplemente no me siento inspirada, entonces no me gusta sentir ningun tipo de presion al respecto.
Tambien me ha encantado conocer otras personas que como yo, realizan sus procesos creativos en distintas partes del mundo, siento por primera vez que encontre a "los mios" y me veo en cada chica que cose , pinta o hace accesorios, eso me gusta muchisimo.
Junto con Etsy, entrego en varias tiendas aca en Chile y hago ventas en mi Depto.
Otro de mis grandes placeres es el chocolate en todas sus formas, aca les dejo una receta para que prueben.

Although knowledge flickr 3 years ago, I learned of Etsy not until last year, they started to find out and I signed up. At first I muchicimo complicated language, but after a little scared and I was losing metiendome fully in this world, even though I do treasurys:)
Another thing I love about my job is that I can work at home and I like a lot of free time, I'm super cyclic and work hard and other times I just feel inspired, then I do not feel like any kind of pressure in this regard.
I was also delighted to meet other people like me do their creative processes in different parts of the world, I feel for the first time I had to "mine" and I feel that every girl sew, paint or make accessories, I like a lot .

Hola a todos! Soy nueva en etsy en español por eso pensé que la mejor manera de presentarme era contándoles un poco sobre una pequeña parte de mi país. Sé que la mayoría de ustedes, al igual que yo, no viven en su país de origen, por eso pensé que compartirán conmigo esta sensación que uno tiene cuando volves de vista tu país durante un par de semanas.

Hello everybody! I am new at etsy in spanish so I thought the best way to introduce myself to you was telling you about a small part of my country, very small by the way. I know most of you, the same as me, are living somewhere else but in "your" country so I thought you will share with me this feeling when you came back to “your” country for a couple of weeks.

Nosotros, me refiero a mi esposo y yo, estamos viviendo en Nueva York desde hace 4 años y el pasado mes de junio fuimos a visitar a nuestra familia y amigos en Argentina. Se sienten tantas cosas diferentes desde el día en que comenzas a planificar el viaje hasta el día en que tomas el vuelo para regresar a Nueva York! Que es increíble! Sólo tenemos 2 semanas y miles de amigos y familiares con los que queremos compartir "asados" y "cafés"! Es definitivamente no es suficiente.

Visiting My Country We , I mean my husband and me, are living in New York for almost 4 years now and this past June we went to visit our family and friends in Argentina. I feel so many different things since the day we start planning our trip until the day we take the flight to come back to New York! That it is unbelievable! We only have 2 weeks and tons of friends and family with whom we want to share "asados" and "cafes"! It is definitely not enough.

Generalmente nos quedamos en Tucumán, nuestra ciudad, pero esta vez decidimos ir de viaje con una parte de mi familia, mi hermana Lulu mi mamá Ana y mi papá Pancho. Fuimos a Purmamarca quizás el más pintoresco y encantador pueblo de la Quebrada de Humahuaca rodeado de montañas multicolores y una de las primeras ciudades en la Argentina.

Generally we stay in Tucuman, the city where we are from but this time we decided to go for a trip with part of my family, my sister Lulu my Mom Ana and my Dad Pancho. We went to Purmamarca perhaps the most picturesque and charming village of Quebrada de Humahuaca surrounded by multicolored mountains and one of the earliest towns in Argentina.

Nuestra primera parada fue "Volcán", un pequeño pueblo fundado en 1905, como consecuencia del tendido de las vías del ferrocarril. Actualmente lo que solía ser la estación de tren es un mercado muy tradicional, donde podes encontrar objetos típicos de la zona.

The landscape throughout the route is marvelous! Our first stop was "Volcan"; a small village that was born in 1905, with the route of the railway. Currently what used to be the train station is a very traditional market where you can find wonderful stuffs, but really mean it! I just went crazy in that market! We even saw a "llama" wearing a colorful necklace!

Nuestra próxima parada fue Purmamarca, el paisaje es impresionante! El pueblo está ubicado en la falda de una montaña imponente y majestuosa "El Cerro de los Siete Colores".

Our next stop was Purmamarca, the environment is stunning! The town is located on the lap of an imposing and majestic mountain "El Cerro de los Siete Colores" (Seven Colors Mountain).

El diseño de la ciudad fue concebida en torno a la iglesia principal, que data de 1648 situada en un lado de "la plaza central" donde hay una feria de artesanías donde podes encontrar productos regionales: cerámica, tapices con telares, ponchos, instrumentos musicales y trajes típicos de la Quebrada.

The layout of the city was designed around the main church, which dates from 1648 situated on one side of " la plaza central"(Main Square In the Square, there is a crafts fair where you can get regional products such as pottery, carpets made with looms, ponchos, musical instruments and typical clothes from the Quebrada (Narrow path).

El lugar con más actividad en Purmamarca es la plaza principal, donde se pueden encontrar cafés, un par de restaurantes y un mercado pequeño en la propia plaza.

The busiest part of Purmamarca is the main square, where you can find cafes, a couple of restaurants, a small market and plenty of locals relaxing in the shade.

Después de todo el día caminando por el pueblo, era hora de ir a cenar! Mi tío (que estuvo allí un par de meses antes) nos recomendó ir a "Los Morteros", un lugar muy especial que ofrece platos regionales, delicioso!

After all day walking around the village, it was time to go for dinner! My uncle (he was there a couple of months before) recommended us to go to "Los Morteros", a very special place that offers regional dishes, delicious!

Finalmente empezamos nuestro camino hacia el hotel - "Los Colorados" - situado al final del Paseo de los Colorados". El hotel está rodeado de hermosas montañas de colores y tiene maravillosas vistas. El lugar es muy tranquilo e inspirador.

Finally we start our way to the hotel - "Los Colorados"- located at the end of the "Paseo de los Colorados". The Hotel is surrounded by beautiful colorful mountains and has wonderful views. The place is very peaceful and inspiring.

Hola, mi nombre es Patricia y mi tienda es Beesybee Fibers. Soy nueva aquí en Etsy in Spanish y me gustaría presentarme. Me he dedicado a trabajar con fibras desde que, bueno, tengo uso de razón. De niña, me gustaba visitar a mis vecinas porque me regalaban retazos de tela que luego yo utilizaba para vestir a mis muñecas. Desde pequeña me ha gustado costurar, bordar y coleccionar telas. Eventualmente aprendí el arte de tejer. Actualmente me dedico a trabajar con la lana que tiño y uso ya sea para hacer fieltro o para hilar.

Hi, mi name is Patricia and my shop is Beesybee Fibers. I´m new here in Etsy in Spanish and I would like to introduce muself. I´ve been working with fiber since, well, I can remenber. When I was a child I would go and visit my neighbors because they would give me fabric scraps that I would use later on to dress my dolls. I always liked to sew, stitching, and collect fabric. Evantually I learned to knit. Today, I work full time dyeing wool that I use to make felt or for spinning.

También ofrezco mis lanas teñidas en mi tienda Etsy para aquellas personas que les guste hilar y personas que trabajan con el fieltro. Unas de las cosas favoritas que más me gusta hacer con la lana es hacer bufandas con una técnica llamada Nuno o fieltro laminado. Hace algunos años tuve la oportunidad de aprender esta técnica de manos de mi maestra Polly Sterling. Mi vida cambió cuando aprendí a manipular la lana con la seda de cierta manera, y por medio de la fricción, un poco de agua, jabón, y mucha energía, la magia creada por éstos elementos me hizo comprender lo ilimitado y vasto mundo que la lana ponía ante mis ojos.

I also offer my dyed wool on my Etsy Shop to felters and spinners. One of my favorite things to do with wool is to create felted scarves using a technique called Nuno or laminated felting. Years ago, I had the opportunity to learn this technique from the hands of my teacher Polly Sterling. My life changed after I learned how to manipulate wool and silk in a certain way, and with friction, some water, soap and lots of energy, the magic created by all these elements made me understand how unlimited and vast was the World that wool was unfolding in front of me.

Hilar la lana es otra actividad que me gusta mucho, porque permite relajarme y no importa cuán estresada me encuentre, cuando estoy hilando y preparando mis lanas me siento transportada hacia una calma casi Zen, y difícil de describir.

Spinning is another activity that I enjoy a lot, because it allows me to relax, and no matter how stressed l am, when I’m working on preparing and spinning my fibers, I feel transported towards a zen nirvana, that is difficult to describe.

Ají de Gallina!

Barr-etzz los saluda desde Perú, y quiero compartir con ustedes una receta deliciosa que es además, muy fácil de hacer. Pero primero un poquito de historia previa a la receta, tomen nota:

El Ají de Gallina

Un pariente de la gallina moderna existía en el Perú en épocas Pre-colombinas. Conocido con el nombre de ‘hualpa’ en Quechua, se cocinaba con ají y era de tal importancia que un Inca llevaba su nombre: Atahualpa, último de los Incas coronados, fue ejecutado por los españoles. Sin embargo, el plato que ha llegado a nuestros días es un ejemplo perfecto de la fusión de ingredientes españoles y quechuas.

Ingredientes
1 pollo (2 kg.) equivalente a 3 pechugas completas
1 cebolla blanca picada
1 diente de ajo molido
7 cdas. pasta de ají mirasol – (receta abajo)
½ pan de molde sin corteza
1 docena de aceitunas
2 tazas de caldo de pollo
1 ½ taza de leche evaporada
100 gr. de nueces picadas
125 gr. de queso parmesano

En un caldo de pollo sancochar las pechugas y dejarlas enfriar en él. Desmenuzar el pan, remojarlo en la leche y pasar la mezcla por la licuadora. Freír las cebollas en aceite hasta dorar, agregar después el ajo, el ají licuado y freír bien. Añadirle el pan remojado y licuado; ajustar el punto de sal y pimienta.
Cocinar bien e ir aumentándole el caldo caliente por cucharones, moviendo constantemente. Agregar caldo cada vez que el pan haya espesado. Añadirle el aceite de oliva, siempre removiendo.
Al final agregarle el pollo deshilachado, el queso parmesano rallado y las nueces picadas. Si espesa, añadirle un poco más de caldo moviendo suavemente para no deshacer el pollo.
Hervir hasta que aflore el aceite a la superficie. Servir bien caliente con papa amarilla y arroz, adornando con aceitunas y mitades de huevo duro.

Pasta de Ají Mirasol

Ingredientes
· 2 cdas. de aceite
· ½ kg. de ají mirasol
· Agua

Cortar los tallos y sacar las semillas y venitas de los ajíes. (Para una salsa bien picante, se puede dejar algunas venas). Tostar los ajíes en una sartén seca a fuego alto por algunos minutos, luego blanquearlos. Dependiendo de cuán picante se quiera la salsa, se puede blanquear una, dos o tres veces (cambiando el agua cada vez). Cada vez que se blanquea el ají, el sabor se suaviza. En una licuadora o procesador con cuchilla metálica, licuar los ajíes con suficiente aceite y agua como para obtener una pasta espesa. Pasar la mezcla por tamiz y descartar cualquier residuo.

Hello! Barr-etzz salutes you all from Peru ! I will like to share with you a recipe that is very tasty and simple to do. But before a little bit of history. Enjoy!

Aji de Gallina

A kind of chicken did exist in Peru in pre-Colombian times. Known as 'hualpa' in Quechua, it was cooked with ají and was important enough to have an Inca named for it. Atahualpa, last of the ruling Incas, was executed by the Spaniards but the dish as it exists today is a perfect example of the fusion of Spanish and Quechua ingredients. The addition of bread, nuts and cheese to the hot spicy chicken gives an added dimension to this very traditional dish.

Ingredients:
1 whole roaster chicken, pullet or hen (about 5 lb / 2½ kg)
1 white onion finely chopped
1 clove of garlic chopped
7 Tbps of Aji Mirasol paste(refer to below)
½ a mold white bread, crusts removed
2 cups chicken stock
½ cup vegetable oil
1 can of evaporated milk (whole or 2% works fine)
A dozen of black olives
3 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
3 tbsp chopped walnuts

In a chicken broth cook the chicken breasts and leave to cool it. Crumble the bread, soak it in milk and pass it by the blender. Fry the onions in oil until brown, then add garlic, aji mirasol paste and fry blending well. Add the bread to the mix and adjust the salt and pepper.
Cook the bread well and go on increasing the hot broth, stirring constantly. Add broth every time the bread has thickened. Add olive oil, always stirring.
At the end add the shredded chicken, grated parmesan cheese and chopped nuts. If thick, add a little more broth moving gently so as not to undo the chicken.
Boil until the oil begins to come to the surface. Serve hot with potatoes and yellow rice, garnished with olives and hard boiled egg halves.

Aji Mirasol Paste

Ingredients:
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1lb (½ kg) dried ají mirasol
Water

Stem, seed and devein the ajíes. (For a very spicy paste you can keep some of the veins.) Toast them in a dry skillet over high heat for a few minutes and then blanche them.. Depending on the amount of spiciness you want your paste to have you can blanche just once, or two or three times (in a change of water each time). The spiciness will reduce with each blanching. In a blender or food processor fitted with a steel blade, process the ajíes with just enough vegetable oil and water to make a thick paste. Push the mixture through a fine sieve and discard any remaining skin and veins.

Les quiero mostrar cómo hacer etiquetas, tarjetas y stickers para nuestros negocios con Microsoft Publisher.

Seguramente muchas de ustedes sepan usarlo, o tengan algún programa mejor, pero este es el que yo uso y es bastante sencillo!
Empecemos por las tarjetas para nuestros productos.
Lo primero es abrir el programa y cerrar el catálogo que aprece.

I want to show you how to make labels, personal cards and stickers with Microsoft Publisher.
Many of you probably know how to use it, or have a better program to do it, but this is the one I use and it’s pretty simple!
Lets begin with the labels for our products.
First, we open the program and close the catalog that shows up.

Luego clikeamos en Cambiar el Tamaño de Página, a la izquierda de la pantalla para elegir el tamaño. Supongamos que queremos hacer tarjetas de 4 x 2cm, que pueden servir para ropa, carteras, bufandas...
Configuramos el tamaño dejando como márgenes el valor 0.

Then we click on Change Page Size, at the left of the screen, to pick the size. Lets say we want to make 4 x 2 cm labels, that can be used for clothing, purses, scarfs...
We set the size leaving the margins at 0.

Ahora, para diseñar la tarjeta hay que clickear en el ícono de Cuadro de Texto a la izquierda.

Now, to design the label we click on the icon Cuadro de Texto (I don’t know how is named in the english version) at the left.

Seleccionamos todo contorno de la tarjeta.
Es una buena idea ponerle un marco, ya que será más fácil a la hora de cortarlas. Para eso, hacemos click con el botón derecho sobre la tarjeta y seleccionamos Formato de cuadro de texto. En la pestaña Colores y líneas elegimos el color y grosor del marco.

We select all the outline of the label.
It’s a good idea to use a frame because it will be easier to cut after. For this, we click on the right button of the mouse over the label and select Formato de cuadro de texto
In the flap Colors and lines we choose the color and thickness of the frame.

Ahora queda por escribir el texto. Si ya tienen una fuente y colores para su marca (del banner de etsy, por ejemplo), pueden usar estos mismos. En este caso es un ejemplo muy sencillo.

Now we can write the text. If you already have a font and specific colors for your brand (from your Etsy banner for instance) you can use this ones. In this case I made a very simple example.

Para imprimir las tarjetas, vamos a Archivo, Configurar Impresión y seleccionamos Varios copias en cada hoja.

Ahora qudea jugar con los márgenes y ver qué orientación conviene en cada caso para que salgan la mayor cantidad de copias. En este caso dejé los valores de los márgenes como estaban pero modifiqué la separación horizontal y vertical.

To print the labels we go to File, Configurar Impresion and select Several copies in one page.
What is left now is to play with the margins and see what orientation (vertical or horizontal) is convenient in each case to get more copies. In this case I’ve left the margins as they were by default but I’ve modified the horizontal and vertical separation.

A la hora de imprimir hay que chequear que no hayan cambiado estos valores (ojo que muchas veces cuando voy a Propiedades para cambiar la calidad de la impresión, al volver, se cambian al modo automático los valores y hay que volver a definirlos!)

Lo que hago luego es imprimir las tarjetas en hojas especiales bonitas, de color y con más grosor que las hojas normales. Para este caso usaría una hoja de un lila claro. Luego hago un agujero en un extremo y le paso una cinta finita de raso del mismo color de la tarjeta para atarla a una manija o cierre de la cartera.
De la misma manera, jugando con distintos tamaños, se pueden hacer tarjetas personales o stickers para pegar en los paquetes que enviamos.
La verdad es que es divertido, fácil de hacer y artesanal! Espero que les sea útil!


When it’s time to print you want to check that this values didn’t change (sometimes when I go to Properties to change the print quality, when I come back, the values change to the default values and you have to define them again!)

I print the labels in special color paper. In this example I would use a nice lilac paper. Then I make a little hole on each label to tie them with ribbon to the strap or zipper of a bag.
The same way, playing with different sizes, you can make personal cards or stickers to put on the packages.
It’s really fun, easy and handmade! I hope it’s useful :)

A mí siempre me ha gustado la naturaleza en todos sus aspectos. Cuando niña y frecuentemente me preguntaban cual es mi color favorito, y yo diría "Verde como el pasto". A menudo yo iría afuera de mi casa a crear cosas en naturaleza alrededor de mi casa en Buffalo, New York. Yo también tuve una pasión por la fotografía. Cuando llego el tiempo para continuar con mis estudios y elegir una carrera en la Universidad, fue difícil para elegir entre fotografía y horticultura. Pero, elegí Horticultura/Diseño Floral. Desde el nacimiento de mi segunda hija a sido un poco difícil quedarme en casa y no estar afuera creando algo nuevo. Consecuentemente empecé mi tienda Etsy, Floresdelsol. Fue ahí donde combine mi amor por los diseños florales y la fotografía.

I have always loved nature. All aspects of it. When I was little and someone would ask me what my favorite color was, I would say "Green like the grass". I would often go off and create things in the fields by my home where I grew up outside of Buffalo, New York. I also had another passion, photography. When it came time for me to go to college and decide a major, I had a difficult time choosing between photography and horticulture. But I chose Horticulture emphasizing in Floral Design. Since having my second baby it is hard for me to stay at home and not be out and creating things so, I started my Etsy shop Floresdelsol. Where I can combine my love for designing flowers and photography.

En mi tienda vendo mis diseños florales y también algunos objetos que yo encuentro intrigante. Mis diseños son modernos. Me encanta ocupar piezas de vendimia en mis diseños. Yo pienso que le da una historia a mis diseños y siempre me pregunto de donde vino este florero? Cuantos dueños tuvo? En que ático o armario estuvo en los últimos 15 años?

Las flores que uso son profesionalmente preservadas, de esa manera son suaves y tienen un color precioso. En ciertas ocasiones ocupo flores de seda, solamente si demuestran su superioridad. También me gustan rosas de pergamino. Espero que les gusten mis diseños!

In my store I sell my floral designs and also a few vintage finds that I find particularly intriguing. My designs are modern. I love to use vintage pieces in my floral designs. I think that it gives the design a story behind it, it always leaves me wondering, I wonder where did this vase come from? How many different owners has it had? In what attic or cupboard did it spend its last 15 years?

The flowers that I use are mostly all professionally preserved, that way they are soft to the touch and still have their beautiful colors. I rarely use faux items like silk flowers and would only use them if they look superior. I also love to use parchment paper roses. I hope you enjoy my designs!

Hola y saludos desde Washington, DC! Me llamo Audrey, pero aqui en Etsy me conocen como “espanolita,” que viene de un apodo que me dio mi marido, un español de Madrid. Me enamoré tanto de la cultura Española durante los dos años que viví alli, que el me acabo llamando espanolita. Desde mi primera clase de español en la escuela hace más de 10 años, el español, tanto el idioma como la cultura, ha formado parte importante de mi vida. Lo estudie en la universidad y mis estudios me llevaron a España a estudiar en la universdad Complutense de Madrid, donde conocí a mi marido de 5 años.

Hello and greetings from Washington, DC. My name is Audrey, but here on Etsy people know me as “espanolita,” which is a nickname that my husband, a native of Madrid, gave me some years back. I fell so much in love with the Spanish culture during the two years that I lived there that my husband gave me that nickname. Since my first Spanish class in school more than 10 years ago, the Spanish language and culture have formed an important part of my life. Me junté al mundo Etsy hace ya dos años y desde entonces soy adicta! No me deja de impresionar el talento de todos los artistas y gente creativa de todo el mundo que son parte de Etsy. Al principio, empece comprando, pero mi pasion por el “vintage” me llevo a la decision de vender también.

Aunque para muchos de vosotros Etsy es vuestro trabajo, Etsy es mi hobby, una forma de desconectarme del trabajo (soy profesora de ingles como segundo idioma en un instituto público) y expresarme de modo creativo, de compartir con todos mi amor por la ropa antigua.

De dónde viene el interes en la ropa vintage? Bueno, supongo que todo empezó porque mi familia nunca tuvo mucho dinero y mis padres siempre compraban todo de segunda mano. De pequena, no me gustaba que me comprasen ropa usada porque, como la típica niña americana, lo queria todo nuevo. Pero, todo cambio cuando una compañera del instituto (high school), que siempre llevaba ropa interesante, me llevo a una tienda de segunda mano (thrift store). Desde entonces, casi toda mi ropa la compro usada o vintage, en una tienda de segunda mano, primero porque es la forma más barata de comprar. Además, es ecológico y la mayoria de la ropa vintage es de mejor calidad de la ropa de hoy en dia. Me gusta imaginarme la historia detrás de cada prenda vintage que me compro y me gusta saber que lo que compro es único. Mi lema es: si no es de segunda mano, no lo quiero!

Where does my love for vintage clothing come from? Well, I guess it all started because my family never had a lot of money and my parents always used to buy everything second-hand. As a little kid, I didn’t like it that they bought me used clothes because, like any ordinary American girl, I wanted everything new. But, it all changed when a high school classmate, who always wore interesting clothes, took me to a thrift store and opened my eyes to a whole new world. Since then, almost all of my clothes are used and/or vintage, bought from a thrift store. First of all, it’s the most cost effective way to shop. Plus, it’s environmentally friendly and the majority of vintage clothing is of better quality than clothing made today. I love to imagine the story behind each garment I buy and I like to know that I’m buying something unique. My motto is: if it’s not used, I don’t want it!
